William E. Nelson Jr.

William E. Nelson, Jr., coeditor of Black and Latino/a Politics: Issues in Political Development in the United States, is a Professor of Political Science and African American Studies at The Ohio State University. He earned a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana in 1971. His research fields include American politics, urban politics, black politics, public policy, state and local government, and comparative race and ethnic relations. His prolific research appears in many journals and books. In 2001, he received the American Political Science Association's Best Book Award on Comparative Race and Ethnic Politics for his book, Black Atlantic Politics: Dilemmas of Political Empowerment in Boston and Liverpool (State University of New York Press, 2000). Among the many offices he has held, he has served as Vice President of the American Political Science Association, and Chair of the Department of Black Studies at Ohio State University.
