Charles M. Dorn

The late Charles M. Dorn was Professor of Art Education and Director of the Arts Administration Center Program at Florida State University, Tallahassee. He had also served as chair of the Florida State University's Department of Art Education. Prior to his employment at FSU, he had been head of Purdue University's Department of Creative Arts. Professor Dorn was an exhibiting artist and had shown his work in various solo and group exhibitions throughout the Midwest and Southeast. In addition to Art Education: The Development of Public Policy, Dorn had authored Thinking Art: A Philosophical Approach to Art Education (1994) and Mind in Art: Cognitive Foundations in Art Education (1999). He was the coauthor of Assessing Expressive Learning(2002). From 1962 to 1970 Dr. Dorn served as editor of Art Education, the journal of the National Art Education Association. He received his B.A. and M.A. degrees from George Peabody/Vanderbilt and his Ed.D. from the University of Texas, Austin.
